Recently I sat next to a grizzled elderly man in our village while having espresso at our village coffee bar. As I watched, transfixed, he pulled out a “kit.” It was a hand-carved cigar holder. Assembling it took 20 minutes. He slowky cleaned each piece and put together two long segments, one larger than the other. Then he carefully cut a thin cigar and inserted it Finally, he filled a kind of recess with some kind of grainy material from a little tin– maybe a filter — and then lighted it.
It was quite the production.
Hi Mark, I love reading your description of this guy’s cigar ritual. That’s dedication and love!
