Called “La Madonna che Scappa” in Italian, this is an extraordinary annual Easter event held in PIazza Ghirabaldi, in Sulmona, Abruzzo. This photo capture the pivotal moment when Mary’s mourning cloaks is whisked away in a flash, releasing doves into the air, while the bearers of the statue dash across the square to the newly risen Christ.
